MCS works to encourage, promote, and facilitate civic participation by reducing language barriers. Each year, MCS partners with more than 35 community-based non-profit organizations, government agencies and small businesses to provide language services to Washington, DC area residents with Limited English Proficiency (LEP). More than 6000 area residents benefit from these services each year.
MCS has the capacity to perform the following services in more than 30 languages including: Amharic, Arabic, Bahasa, Bengali, Bosnian, Bulgarian, Cantonese, Creole French, Croatian, Darija, Farsi, French, German, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, Oromo, Portuguese, Punjabi, Russian, Sango, Serbian, Spanish, Tagalog, Thai, Tigrinya, ToiSan, Turkish, Twi, Ukrainian, Urdu, Uzbek, Vietnamese, and Yoruba, and Yoruba. Additionally, MCS provides a comprehensive Community Interpreter Training (CIT) to proficient and bilingual residents who are interested in becoming Community Interpreters that reduce language barriers for others. These services help ensure all those in our community have a voice.
